My practice often dissolves and releases trauma and societal programming. Existing as an immigrant for most of my adulthood (what I like to call self-imposed residencies abroad) has expanded my own sense of identity beyond old wounds and rigidity. Discovering new vistas and existing in multiple languages has lead me towards understanding universal human experiences and mysteries — portrayed in my art through interior scenes and landscapes.

The wild feminine, culture and psychology are common threads in my work. My intellectual research is balanced via exploration of art materials as I entertain new methods. Playing with tactile media brings joy, adventure and inner-child healing into the process.

Dana Burns grew up in New York and has split most of her adult years between the French Alps and Paris, France. She earned her BFA in Fine Art and Minor in History of Art from the Fashion Institute of Technology (NYC) in 2010. Burns has exhibited throughout NYC and Europe. She currently lives and works in Berlin, Germany with her two cats. She is the founder of an experimental, non-profit art vitrine dedicated to under-represented female immigrant artists, in Neukölln.
